A review of the hydrographic data from the 2002 Western Arctic Shelf-Basin Interactions (SBI) Process Cruises permits the following conclusions.(1) Temperature-salinity relationships were similar to canonical descriptions, but at five stations in the outer shelf/slope region, warm/high-salinity Atlantic Layer Water appeared to have risen, displaced the lower halocline, and mixed with shelf/upper halocline water.
Kalkipyrone A showed good cytotoxicity to H-460 human lung cancer cells (EC50 = 0.9 mu M), while kalkipyrone B and yoshinone A were less active (EC50 = 9.0 mu M and 10 mu M, respectively). Kalkipyrone, a novel alpha-methoxy-beta,beta'-dimethyl-gamma-pyrone possessing an alkyl side chain, was isolated from an assemblage of the marine cyanobacteria Lyngbya majuscula and Tolypothrix sp.It’s done and dusted, and the author reads a pre-publication version of a future article. In fact, sometimes the audience comes to feel that the presentation is even further along, that the published version is either in press somewhere or mostly finished.Nitrite concentrations were always Improved monitoring of non-CO2 greenhouse gases in air samples is presented, achieved using a new analytical system based on preconcentration, gas-chromatography and mass spectrometry. In addition to the major HFCs, HCFCs and CFCs, the new observations include the first in situ time series of the C1–C3 PFCs (CF4, C2F6 and C3F8) and the more volatile of the HFCs (CHF3, CH2F2, CH3CF3) alongside SF6, all of which are now monitored routinely as part of the Advanced Global Atmospheric Gases Experiment (AGAGE).(4) Microbial processes continue to destroy DIN in significant quantities as the Pacific waters transit the SBI region.
(5) Nitrate and ammonium were the principal contributors to DIN.
The third was identified as the recently reported yoshinone A, also isolated from a marine cyanobacterium.
Kalkipyrone A and B were obtained from a field-collection of the cyanobacterium Leptolyngbya sp.
I’ll try to explain the logic, and my previous experience with speed presentations.
So often at conferences, the focus is on research that has already been conducted.
(2) Primary production in the SBI study region was strongly influenced by the advection of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) entering via Bering Strait.
